Hurrah! I have recieved one vote!

Unfortunatley, it was a vote for "No, he never used flatwounds" .

I've been trying to emulate his tone using roundwounds and it only recently occured to me that the reason I couldn't get the balance between "mudiness" and "bark" quite right, might be that Bruce was using flats!

Back to the drawing board then, unless anyone else has a different opinion?

The answer is no. His tone (I assume you refer to the early records) is a P, with rounds, run direct and with extreme use of compression - sometimes one comp daisy-chained into another, probably an 1176 or two.

Thanks for that takeout !

Sadly, my EBS Multicomp doesn't do "extreme", or I'd give it a go!
