Did Newsted ever use a Wal much?

actually I just remembered he has one in the One video... funny that I never really noticed that before.

Maybe if he would have used it on the album it would have cut through the mix?!

He used those for awhile. At least the first couple of years.

Once he started making $ with Metallica he bought one, I think he used it on the And Justice for All tour and its possible it got used on the recording of the Black Album.

Wishful thinking. I doubt James would have allowed such a thing to happen.

I remember reading long ago that he sweated a lot and destroyed the electronics so he switched to Sadowsky's that were somehow sweat proofed. Vague memory at best... fwiw.
