Did Wetton record with a J?

Sign in to disble this ad
I know Wetton used a black J w/ black inlays at live shows when he was in U.K.

Does anyone know if he actually used the J to record U.K. albums? The reason why I'm asking is I truly dig his U.K. tone.

I am thinking he used both Js and Ps in the UK days. "Nothing To Lose" was one I have read in the past that was recorded with the J.
After years of playing Ibanez, Fernandes and Zons, he was once again playing his white P bass he played from the UK days while on the "Omega" tour.

Many of the UK tracks, for example "Rendezvous 6:02" and "In The Dead Of The Night" sound like Jazz Bass. Live photos show him favouring the Precision 'though he switched for a black Ibanez RS 900 ("The Phil Lynott bass") for the last dates.

King Crimson headquarters www.dgmlive.com once had some rehearsal tapes from Robert Fripp's "Exposure" sessions available (Fripp, Wetton and Phil Collins) and those tracks sounded like a Jazz Bass too. Ditto for the 1978 released Jack-Knife album "I Wish You Would".

Wetton had the Jazz Bass already back in 1974:

I wonder if he ever used it then?

When Wetton was with Asia he used a precision, jazz, and a Ric in the studio. I don't know what he used with UK. King Crimson was pretty much all p-bass as far as I know.

I've got a picture of him and David Byron from when he was In Uriah Heep and he's got a beautiful natural finish P
I would attach it but it's in a book

Actually, the most (if all?) of UK's first album sound like he used the Jazz Bass. Also some songs from the second, for example "Rendezvous 6:02":
