Very strange show... Cheryl Crow... a Jonas????
Reggie McBride played bass. He's really a fine, fine player but, with his rounds, active pick up, and B string, he was in the wrong place.
What would Sir James have thought? Where were you Bob Babbit?
Cheryl Crow?

| | | | Sheryl Crow once sang back-up in Michael Jackson's '80s band. I guess that's close enuff for Jazz.
...maybe Joan Osborne was booked elsewhere?

As soon as I saw a modern ERB I figured "yup, that's what's wrong." Nothing against modern ERB's, mind you...I own several. But it just didn't sound like Motown.
And I thought Sheryl Crow did a suprisingly good job of emulating a young Michael Jackson's vocal timbre and formants. Not at all what I expected from her, even though I knew she'd toured as his BG singer. |

He was never a very good singer, but he is so bad now it's embarrassing! Sorry Smokey, I know you wrote some nice stuff and were important behind the scenes, but I don't think god put you here to be a front man

Otherwise, the band was good and tight. The bassist had foam under his strings for the thumpy sound. It was exciting enough for the White House. Yes I thought a Jonas Brother being there was really pathetic. I'm glad they got Smokey Robinson and Stevie Wonder to get up and sing their own tunes. I was kind of heart sick to see Martha Reeves singing...while she was very talented, she's lost her voice in her old age. I understand her and Berry Gordy aren't on the best of terms. Then again, so are many of the 60's Motown artists.
I wanna know when they're gonna do a Stax Tribute.
