I just wondered if anyone knew the guy with the old harmony bass in this photo. I found this photo in some of my late brothers stuff, along with some other photos and concert posters that date it probably mid or late seventies. It was a large glossy signed "Keith". He may not even be a musician but it looked like it from the size of the photo and the autograph that he probably was. There were no photographer credits on the photo so I don't think there is any copyright problems posting this, if so will the mods just remove it. Thanks

Keith? That's an interesting looking cigarette btw.

The man on his shirt looks familiar.

Maybe it's one of the Fugs.
"It Crawled Into My Hand, Honest" is the name of one of their albums, and they used to party with Hendrix too.
Google it.

I read the history of the Fugs on their website and they never had anyone who played with them named Keith. I am not sure this guy was even a musician, but the photo was large and in a black plastic cover and being autographed I assumed this interesting dude might be a musician. I guess he might have been a biker friend, he always had a Harley even in the 70's.

Looks like a righty bass, converted and strung for lefty playing. Kooky pickguard! Musta been a hard picker, whoever he was!

After some digging, I'm betting it's Keith Ferguson...

I bet you're right, thanks for the digging. My brother also lived in Austin, hung out in that music scene and died the same way, years of alcohol and drug abuse including heroin and ended up with hepatitis C. He was only 59 but looked 80. Say no to drugs! Ron A

Thanks, CraigG, after reading the article in complete it definately is a pic of Keith Ferguson, the founding bassist of The Fabulous Thunderbirds. The article describes the tatoos and his house including the monkey skeleton hanging off the door and the La Plaza sign. He also played with SRV for awhile. Quite interesting reading, I don't know how you found that information but I appreciate it. Ron A

You're welcome. Just did some "Googling" based on some of the things I observed in the photo. Such an unfortunate tragedy for Keith, your brother, and so many others who weren't able to overcome the demons often found lurking in the shadows of fame's allure.

Sorry about your brother, Ron.

Yeah, my thanks as well. Great read. My brother and I are opening for the T-birds in October! I feel like Wayne and Garth, "We're not worthy!" So between now and then, I'm going to read up on their history. I'm thinkin' Kim Wilson won't be too interested in discussing Keith (Kim is the only original member left). Heck, we'll be lucky to get within 50 feet of them, let alone talk to them! I do hope we won't be forbidden to make eye contact... LOL!
