does anyone play RATM with a pick? (I do)

as the title says... does anyone here play Rage Against the Machine songs with a pick?

I play in a RATM tribute band and I always play with a pick, because I like the feel/sound more than fingers.

I am just curious about others doing the same thing.

I can understand why you play rage with a pick. Rage riffs are really heavy and I find that I "dig" alot more when i play them. I play with fingers but they would sound cool with a pick. Whatever feels/sounds the best.

If you like the sound, go for it, but Tim Commerford always plays with his fingers and, according to various interviews, is vehemently anti-pick. So if you want to go the full authenticity route, it would have to be fingers all the way.

Caveat: I play with a pick about 40% of the time - I'm not a pick hater!

Pick haters are flat out ignorant, regardless of how much raging against the machine they do.

i played the rage cover we did back in my "high school" band with a pick, this was mostly before i was a finger stlye player.

however, if you are in a tribute band and are trying to be "authentic" then it would probably better to play fingers...and wind your own pick-up lawl

but i suppose it's fine to play with a pick if you're much more comfortable with it, i mean it's a tribute band...a tribute...not a replicon construct.

ROFL!

+1

As much as I respect him as a bass player, he actually sounds like a bit of a c**k, if he is indeed one of these guys who thinks pick playing is somehow blasphemous. I guess maybe he just hates the pick sound, everyone's taste differs.

For the record, whilst not quite RATM, my band covers an Audioslave song (not my personal choice) which I use a pick for. It's part of my sound after all, I'm not going to change that just for one song. I don't see the point in covering something if it's just going to be a sound-alike of the original (unless of course you're a tribute band).

No pick for me on RATM stuff - I just put on a little overdrive through my Zoom B2.1 and slap and pop away. I can get a pretty close sound too
