Doesn't Geddy sound way better this tour?

Sign in to disble this ad
Just by hearing the youtube clips, Geddy's bass sounds so much freakin better this tour. It acctualy sounds like a 'real' bass.

Does anybody realy think that 'spring on a stick' bass tone from Rio, R30 and S&A live compares to this???

I like it myself, from the recordings released for the new album to what I hear on youtube...and I will find out live Saturday night in Milwaukee!

Though I loved the RIO tone Geddy got too.

Any links to two youtube videos for comparison purposes?

Do you think that's attributable to new gear or different FOH PA, engineer, etc.?

AFAIK Geddy is pretty much using the same bass & amplification setup he has for the last few tours.

On Youtube, I just typed in 'Rush time machine tour'.
This search should bring up a bunch of stuff.
Enjoy!

I'm not sure what gear he has on stage because the is so much other 'stuff' on stage. But something changed for sure.
His sound is very guttsy, more like Different Stages.

This is how Geddy gets his sound.

Yeah, but I am not sure those chicken amps are used this tour.

Geddy switched to Orange amps for this tour.

Here is a review of their show last night in Kansas City, with some stage shots: http://blogs.pitch.com/wayward/2010/..._starlight.php

I am sure glad he did.
But with all that stuff on stage It's impossible to see from the pictures I saw.
In any case I am happy.

I'm glad! Those washing machines killed his tone big time!

Oh yeah, big time!
Using a washing machine for an amps is like Neil using a car seat for a bass drum.

I want you guys to know there is a bootleg of the first show.
I don't want to shout it from the rooftops for fear of being 'that guy' pushing bootlegs.

Orange amps, as in the sound we hear are the mic'd amps and not a di through the PA?

Officially, from the Orange press release: "Geddy will be using an Orange AD200 bass head with an OBC410 4x10” bass cabinet as part of his complex bass rig on the tour."

He's using two heads and two cans AFAIK. I don't know hwy he'd switch to a real amp if he wasn't using that as part of what he gives FOH, but who knows? They're using in-ears, so maybe he wanted to hear the Orange in them instead of the sound of the SansAmp. I played Orange amps at NAMM in Nashville and they do sound good.

While we are at it, I am trying to meet up with a few people from The Rush Forum tomorrow, why not anyone here that wants to meet as well. We are supposed to meet on the Right side of Jojo's at 6pm. Jojo's is just outside the venue in the Summerfest Grounds.

http://www.summerfest.com/pdf/GroundsMap.pdf

There is always a stage nearby with a Rush tribute band but by Jojo's is the best place to prolly meet up. I will try and have a sign up or being held up. I do not know what it will say but look for Talk bass or The Rush Forum in some function and form.

Might be cool to put faces to names.

PS, the sign might be a t shirt with sharpie on it. I am unsure of the rules on signs there....
