Jamerson and the "FUNK Brothers" were just super talented creative guys. The Stax thing was a different process that yielded a very punchy more rhythm section oriented sound with horn punches. Can't take anything away from either sound but I'm a STAX guy through and through.
I agree with the slight difference that I love them BOTH.
I was raised in Pittsburgh in the 60's and I guess I'd say we were a little more of a Motown kinda town in those days. My appreciation of STAX came a little later in life as I got bit by the Blues bug.
We are lucky to have both musical legacies...
