Donald Duck Dunn: Booker T and the MGs

Ok, so I'm 37 and I have never spent time listening to some of the so-called bass greats such as Jamerson, Dunn, etc. until I subscribed to TB... I have mostly been a metal player, with formal jazz training and some gigging background playing rock, country and blues.

I've been listening to some Motown stuff lately, and digging it the bass playing from Kaye and Jamerson. However today I bought "The Very Best Of Booker T and the MGs" for $7.99 at Best Buy and I have to say Duck Dun blows me away! Very tasty licks... this should be mandatory listening for *every* bass player, regardless of music style. I've listened to it twice over so far, and already want to put it back on, fascinating stuff!

Duck's one of the Godfathers! B.T. and the MGs were the Stax records house band playing behind Otis Redding, Sam and Dave and Albert King among others. Al jackson Jr. their drummer is also one of the rhythm greats of all time and of course Steve Cropper and Booker themselves were no slouches. BTW Cropper and Dunn were in the Blues Brothers' band on disk and in the movies.

That CD has been in my changer all year. It's great.

If you want to check out some good Jamerson look into Junior Walker & The All Stars.

This has nothing to do with Duck Dunn, who I've worshipped since first hearing "Green Onions" when it was a single on AM radio...But I had to mention this...
Love the Arlo Guthrie...Saw him do that tune "Live" at the Newport Folk Festival...He was excellent "Live"... )-(
