The Doom Metal Bassist Thread

Sign in to disble this ad
Instead of making threads about each of my favorite Doom bass players, I can just make one. Also this way its easier to reccomend bands and players.

Now that the explanation is done, LETS TALK SOME DOOM!!

Anyone ever listen to Reverend Bizarre. Their bassist/vocalist is one of the best ive heard in the genre. He doesnt tap, slap, or even shred but his lines are intresting and sound good.

Also when i say Doom im including all the sub genres.

That's a Valnott.... It was posted here a few weeks ago... Happy New Year. Would "Down" be Doom metal? Or Strapping Young Lad?

Down is Doom, but Strapping Young Lad isnt.

I recently picked up the Electric Wizard/Reverend Bizarre split. Pretty rad stuff and WAY over the top, but in a good way.

If I could have only one doom band it would have to be Amenra, they are insanely heavy PLUS their bassist has a pretty monstrous tone. Just an awesome band.

In Doom metal, my favorite bassist is the dude from Swallow the Sun (Matti I think).

As far as doom goes, swallow the sun are great. along with,

Catheadral (earlier suff is more doomy)
Void of Silence (Nemathenga's side project he plays with primordial)
Depressed Mode
My Dying Bride
M O S S (more Drone-like. But its all good)
Shape Of Despair
Rammesses

plenty of others but i cant remember at the minute. Its only 8 am...

Does anyone happen to know what Boris' bassist Takeshi uses?

I love his uber distorted low end, and I know he uses a doublenecked Steinberger, but I wanna know what kind of pedals and stuff he uses.

lately i have been listening to reverend bizarre, lord vicar, pagan altar, sleep and alot of witchcraft.

not really into alot of the sub genres even though iknow sleep would count kinda, also like OM, so i guess I like osme of the sub genre bands, but not all of them.

even when it comes to doomy stuff i prefer stuff that does not in anyway sound digital.

Pagan Altar is amazing, but has anyone listened to Minotauri from Finland? Theyre a really good band that no one seems to talk about. Also you guys should check out Jex Thoth, theyre...intresting to say the least.

I wouldn't call Down a doom band. I'd say more southern or maybe stoner.

Are we counting Geezer Butler in this? What with Black Sabbath being one of the big precursors to Doom.
