hey guys! Ive been listening to The Doors alot recently and Ive been wondering. Whos played bass for them? I know they had Jerry Scheff on L.A. Woman but I dunno if they have had other bassists. Such on Soft Parade, Waiting for the Sun (Gotta love that bassline on Summers Almost Gone) and Morrison Hotel. I know Ray Manzerek played the keyboard bass on there first album and live as well. |

| | | | Larry Knechtel on the first album. Douglas Lubahn (of Clear Light) was on Strange Days, Waiting for the Sun, and The Soft Parade. Kerry Magness (“The Unknown Soldier”) and Leroy Vinnegar, who plays upright on “Spanish Caravan.” Harvey Brooks tracked bass for The Soft Parade, the tune. Yesterday, I stated that a friend of mine swore that Bruce Johnston of the Beach Boys did some early live stuff with them, and he still swears this is true. Other bass players with the Doors were Lonnie Mack, Ray Neapolitan lays down some stanky grooves on “Peace Frog” and “Ship of Fools.” Elvis Presley bassist Jerry Scheff brought a Memphis vibe to , L.A. Woman, channeling Duck Dunn on “The Challenging” and delivering a dirty blues stomp on “Been Down So Long.” Scheff shines on “Love Her Madly,” love the slides and slurs.
But, yeah, they didn't have a bass player ;-}

| | | | Lee Sklar also played on the WAITING FOR THE SUN album. Jack Conrad played for them too. Recently Manzarek and Krieger toured with Phil Chen who was on Jeff Beck's BLOW BY BLOW and later with Rod Stewart. |
