Doug John's effect on .........

I have his "new" disc Pocket Fulla Nasty (KILLER disc BTW- I highly recommend picking it up).
Anyway, on the track "Chew On A Dog", he uses an effect on his solo (about half way through the tune).
Sounds sorta like a talk box or something- make a "wow" type of sound, but NOT a wah tone.

Any thoughts???

I don't know what it is but he was endorsing Pigtronix effects.
I love his CDs and playing!

Track 10. I just listened to it again, very liquid-ey envelope tone.

Envelope phasing. Its an old effect but the older hardware units didnt sound as clear.

Could be the pigtronix, but I never messed with one. Guitarist is using a everyday univibe, which those sound sooo good on a bass.

Also, he has massive amounts of compression and he also fuzzed his tone just a tad in one part of his solo, twards the end, for like 3 or 4 notes about.

Polyphase and similar clones get close, but to really copy or get beyond that sound, you need something like a bi-phase with a mutron built in that reacts to dynamics.

Oh, and mix in a talkbox, or a talkbox plugin.

The effect that Doug's using is a Ableton plugin filter. He blended a dry track and a wet track slightly panned.


And he used his Pedulla.

Ableton Live...pretty cool.

I guess Ill have to check it out again. Havent used it ina couple years..
