HUGE, ballsy tone. Tasty, killer lines. Nice 8 and 12 string work. Unbelievable, soulful singer with excellent range. Over My Head has always kept my head banging even when metal was no-go for me. Thoughts? |

Saw them many times in small clubs back in the 90's and they were loud!!
Took 3 days for my ears to stop ringing. But, man they were great live.
Agreed, killer tone especially with the 12 string. DuG would rock 3 SVT cabs too!!!
First 4 King's X albums are classics!!! |

For me, the songs were so numbingly dumb that it didn't matter to me how good the bass playing was. IMO they were like Ugly Kid Joe with a great bass player which unfortunately is still way too much Ugly Kid Joe given our brief time on the planet.

If King's X tunes are "dumb", what would you consider "smart"?

I am sure I like some music that many on TB may not. Yes, King's X always sounded something genre-wise similar to bands like Creed for me...or Dokken.
What would I consider smart? Tool is very smart. Zappa and McCartney were also smart. Jagger is smart, and so is Vai. 3 Doors Down is not smart.

I DO NOT like this style of music. But Dogman is one of my favorite releases. Good songs, great harmonies, killer edge on the bass tone. Because of Doug I played using a guitar amp in addition to my bass rig for a while.

Then again, lyrics definitely take a back seat for me when I evaluate music, so maybe there's something there that I'm not seeing. However, musically, I think that dUg and company are pretty genuine in what they play, unlike some other bands which seem to be more about putting on an attitude to sell product. I don't think "poseur" at all... but can't say the same for the bands mentioned above. A lot of the song lyrics speak to dUg's various personal struggles in a heartfelt manner. I think that they are a pretty tight, complex, and melodic band. I'm left wondering how much of their catalog you've heard?

I saw these guys in Seattle a bit back.....Absolutely un-freakin-believable. I have seen many shows, and this was at a little place....somewhere the grunge scene started up long ago....their sound and performance...freakin unforgettable. DuG completely blew my mind that night, one of those effortless seeming laying it out there experiences.....best part ...My friend and I ran iinto them the next morning at a rest stop as they were on the way to a show in Idaho....and they could not have been more gracious and real....seriously, my perception of musicianship was indelibly impacted over those couple days. |

Seriously, I am not lookin to pick a fight...I promise...I swear... BUT COME ON...ROFLMAO!
Yeah, I have to wonder how much of their catalog you've heard as well
The only song by Kings X that i can think of that even remotely fell into that cheese was "It's Love", but mostly because of the corn-ball video for that song.
But hey, I am just not a fan of "smart" music, obviously...cause I would shoot myself if I had to listen to Tool.

One of my all-time favorite rock tunes. Doug and Co. are one of the best three-piece bands ever.
