What do people think of this brilliant (and in my opinion underrated) bassist?

One of my top picks. I learned his harmonics tune recently. His technique is crazy, esp. his finger slap.

I supported Doug a couple of years ago whilst he was playing with Tarja Turunen in London. I was stuck behind his pedal board, that thing was HUGE. I worked in a guitar store at the time and don't think I ever rigged that many effects together even as a joke!!

He was a really cool guy too

I just met Doug Wimbish.

I just met him. The whole band. Living Colour and Fishbone just killed SF. After Living Colour finished (Fishbone opened), I went to buy a Living Colour hoodie I'd been checking out. There was this huge line. And then the band comes filing out through the lobby and behind the counter and they start selling the merch.

I am not using caps lock or exclamations at all because if I start I might not stop.

I was patient and got my hoodie and they all signed it. Corey was really nice. I got to thank Vernon for everything; he's in a bunch of projects that I like. I told Wil that I'm a bass player so I really appreciate what he does.

Then Doug. When we shook I said, "You're a huge influence. I mean, I don't sound anything like you, but..." And he said, "We all share the same notes."

I know they were just working or whatever. But I've been into these guys from the beginning and the whole time since. And they seemed like just down-to-earth nice guys. This just happened. I just got home.

Hey. Did I ever tell you guys about the time I met Doug Wimbish?

I saw Doug work his pedal magic a few years ago. I was 6 feet away from him and I was floored! I have yet to see a guitarist do it better. I even got to snap a pic with him afterwards.

Cool story! I saw Living Colour in the late '80s with Muzz (sorry for the non-DW content), and they were all so damn good at what they did. I'd love to see them with Fishbone!

I just Living Colour on Jimmy Fallon last week as they have a new album coming out. Love that band and Doug is great holding down the low end, as was Muzz.
I was able to see them live with both lineups and they both were great.

I always dug his playing on the Sugarhill Gang stuff, even though I didn't know it was him at the time.
I was initially bummed when Muzz left Living Colour, but when I heard Stain, I was blown away by his tone! Up to that point, I had been cutting the mids, and boosting the treble, and was usually blaming the recording engineers that I worked with, because I didn't like the way the bass sounded in the recordings. I started leaving the treble flat, and boosting the low mids, and that solved the problem. On several occasions, I took a copy of Stain to the recording session to show the engineer the tone I liked.

Mr. Bomb, sir, you are a god to me now. If I saw Fishbone and Living Colour live, followed by the exchange you had...I would just about crap my pants and die of happiness
