Dougie Tomson ? Does anyone have info?

Sign in to disble this ad
I was listening to Supertramps Crime Of The Century album over the radio. It was a classic rock weekend on our local radio station and they would play 1 side of a classic album in it's entirity.
So after listening to Side one of Crime Of The Century I thought the bass tone was amazing. Especially on the the tracks School and Bloody Well Right.
So I find out the bass players name is Dougie Tomson. Does anyone have any information on him. Like type of bass he used, amps, effects ect..

Here's a picture of Dougie playing a StingRay during the "Breakfast In America" tour (1979):

(Sorry, no further info on his equipment)

Thanks for the picture. It's interesting to see the Music Man. I don't know if he recorded Crime of The Century with that but, before you sent the picture I was thinking Fender Jazz.
Anyhow I will try and find out what gear he used.
Again thanks for the picture.

He also used to play a Rickenbacker 4001.

Good ears, man. I started looking on the Net for old ("Crime Of The Century" era) Supertramp videos and found the promotional clip for "Dreamer". It's lip-synched, so it doesn't necessarily means that he used that bass for the recording, but most likely it was. A Fender Bassman amp can be seen as well. Here are some stills:
