Can't get enough of that wonderful Duff.

Man, just listened to Appetite - Does anyone else believe Duff is a better player than Slash??? That album was a big part of me playing guitar as a kiddie but Duff plays so clean and tight it makes me puke to think Slash overshadows him.

My oldest sister was in 8th or 9th grade when Appetite came out and became a big GnR fan. Growing up I never really got into them.

But as an adult I've gone back and listened to a lot of their stuff. I still wouldn't consider myself a fan, but Duff's bassplaying is really good, especially on that first album. Great tone, punk sensibilities and a great feel for counter melody and groove.

I think it's pointless to compare Duff and Slash, seeing as the latter is a blues-rock based guitarist and the former is a (as TheBigO said) a punk-influenced bassist. That being said, Duff's playing on Appetite is one of my favorite rock bass recordings- rock solid playing, makes himself known without being overbearing, and has that killer GK/Jazz Special/Rotosound/pick tone that slices through the mix.
