I was thinking about learning some duff, so what do you think are Duff McKagan's best bass lines?

learn Sweet Child Of Mine, the intro is awesome and fun to play with a guitarist and drummer that actually know it. Its not hard just great and fun to play. also Rocket Queen is cool to. Nothing really difficult just straight forward rock bass.

well night train is also another good one. mr brownstone has some cool fills in it. my michelle is also another cool one.

duff has alot of nice lines, paradise city is another. none of them are too hard, but they teach you how to groove as a rock player and teach you some tasty fills.

good luck man.

I like Duff because he plows through the drums rather than locking in with them. Duff is a perfect example of why there's a time to lock in and a time not to. I couldn't imagine "Paradise City" without that off-kilter bassline that ignores the drums.

It's So Easy is great. Aaaaaaand: Almost all his stuff with VR. Don't know why nobody brought that up. Especially Slither, Do It For The Kids and Let It Roll.

Duff is probably one of my all time favorite rock bass players, he has such a cool tone.

One of my favorite lines of his is on "You Could Be Mine", it's not very difficult but it's great fun to play if you have very hard hitting drummer playing with you.

Duff is great. His sound on Appetite got me into playing bass probably more than any other player at the time. Great tone, great player. His lines are not too difficult- usually the riff of the song (except for "Locomotive", I think he does his own thing), but he's got great fills and little runs throughout every song that add so much to the texture, but are tastefully understated. I would start with "Welcome to the Jungle"- classic riff, several changes throughout, that trippy bass solo is just perfect!

Most of Appetite for Destruction is brilliant to me, particularly:

- the interlude in Welcome to the Jungle after the guitar solo

- the intro to Its So Easy

- the intro to Sweet Child o Mine

- the chorus on Paradise City

among others. Great bassist, one of my favorite pick players that's for sure...

Rocket Queen has a great grooving bass riff at the beginning. That's fun to play. Sweet Child O' Mine is a great song for bass.
Alot of G'N'R songs have awesome bass lines!
Locomotive (especially the intro solo)
My Michelle (Does a cool lick/scale in the bridge)
Nightrain (Great riffs with some cool fills in the first half of song)
Knockin' On Heavens door is fun aswell. It's just the chord progression G, D and then C, but Duff throws in plenty of embellishments and licks (similar to the verses of SCOM)

Most of the songs are awesome to play, but the ones above are my personal favourits

Pretty much everything on Appetite. I learned to play bass listening to that album.

I'm a big fan of the Illusions as well. Locomotive is an amazing tune, as is Civil War. I love his tone throughout as well.

Duff effin rules! His lines are great for a beginner, and it's really fun to play GnR songs on bass because of him

Oh man, this was my secret favorite song. I steal Duff's style from this tune quite a bit when I don't have an idea for a good bassline. Shh...
