I'm just registering my temporary residence in the Tri-cities area. I'm here all week for work and will be back next week as well. Let me know if anyone is playing a show I should check out.

I would love to come to one of these. I tend to lean towards (1)............

I would love to see/try other gear, share my gear with folks who have never had a chance to check certain brands out, and maybe even do some horse trading.

The only thing I have against bars is the noise/sound level. After 37 yrs of playing, I dont even try to have a conversation over a band.

knoxV is cool with me. Im in Kingsport.

Haven't been yet, but my buddies band 'The Theorizt' played there recently and they said it was really fun.

Hey guys,

I hate to do this, but my band, Tame the Hurricane, is in a competition where the top 9 most downloaded bands get to play the Hard Rock in Gatlinburg, and from there they'll have a chance to play Hyde Park in London.

If you could help a fellow TB brother out it would mean a lot to us! Just follow the link, like their page, sort bands by downloads, and then download Tame the Hurricane's song. Again, it would really mean a lot. We're currently in 10th so ever vote will definitely help!

Thanks guys
James

And for what it's worth, Jmattbassplaya and I have a gig together at the luxurious Longbranch Saloon in Knoxville, TN, on Friday, April 13th.

I wanted to ask everyone your preference and thoughts on an ETTB 2012 get-together. We've been talking about this for quite some time, and we need to get rolling if we want to do one before summer gets here.

I think there are three options, and if anyone can think of something else that would work, please mention it.

1) GTG at someone's house, church, or business, everyone brings gear and talks shop. The usual TB way of doing a GTG, but probably also the most work, and someone has to host it, or come up with a place.

2) GTG at one of our bands' gigs - hang out, drink a few, maybe set in for a song if the other band members are agreeable. Easier than (1), but the gig date needs to be known a month or so out so we have time to get the word out to everyone. Normally, just mentioning the gig here isn't enough to make it happen. We have to say, THIS is when we are doing the GTG, and then people can commit to coming out.

3) GTG at a local brewery (there are several in Knoxville and the area), hoist a few, and talk shop and get acquainted. This is maybe the easiest thing to do because we can set a date and publicize it without it having to be tied to a band date. But there would be no gear there, and so it's probably more like a social event than anything. Which is still cool, because between good beer and us being bass players, there will never be a lack of things to talk about.

Since we are loosely defining ETTB as TB members within an hour and a half of Knoxville or so, it would make sense to do a 2012 GTG either in Knoxville or in the Knoxville area.

Thoughts, everyone?
I could definitely host up to about 200 bass players at my church in Maryville!

We would have to meet somewhere afterwards for brewskies tho

It's an older building, but a sizeable stage, and removable chairs, so if a dozen or so show up, there would be little involved in moving stuff around. If a big crowd showed interest, I would need to clear the sanctuary out and do more prep work. I would need to clear it with the elders, but I see no problem, I would just need to sync it up with the church calendar to make sure there were no prior claims on the time or date.

Jeff, that sounds like a really good possibility. It's not Knoxville, but it isn't far down to Maryville, for those of you who aren't familiar with the area.

Doing the gearfest first, and coupling that with a further social event afterwards, is the best of both! And Maryville does have a Smoky Mountain Brewery location. Very promising!

Let's wait and hear from more of the ETTB gang here, as I'd like to give everybody a chance to talk about what they'd like to do. But this does sound good!

Here is the pic of the stage. Very workable if anyone wanted to get into a jam session. What you don't see is the area in front of the stage which can be cleared to accomodate over 200 + with the chairs removed. This could be as large or small as demand requires.

That is Jeff playing bass in that photo! A Wishbass into an SVT at church? And a hat too?

I'm telling you guys who haven't met Jeff, he's one of a kind, and a good one of a kind, too.

Yeah, we're kind of unconventional like that

Let's get a consensus going on the official ETGTG, what date, who can come, what gear to bring, I'm looking forward to meeting a lot of you guys I have yet to meet in person, and of course to see Michael, Jody, Charlie and others I already know in person!

Doesn't have to be in Maryville, but I have the space there if we can't find an alternative.

I'm way past ready for a GTG! The only date we have on the books is next Saturday. Haven't been pushing much as our lead guitarist's dad is in the hospital and getting up in age. Just plan a date and we'll make it happen, Jeff!

Yeah, I think we just need to throw a date out there and see who shows up. I'll bring it up at church Sunday and see what's available.

As most of us are either working musicians, or aspiring working musicians, does a Sunday afternoon make sense to everyone?

I agree. There really isn't a "best time" to do our ETTB GTG, I agree with Richard and Jeff both that we should just schedule it as soon as possible. It's long overdue.

Also, Sunday in Maryville is not a problem as far as going out to Smoky Mtn. Brewery afterwards- if we decide on doing that. It's a nice idea.

Sunday afternoons work for me. I'll be at SMB to share a pint afterwards, as well, Michael.

Jeff, did you find out any open Sunday afternoon dates coming up at the church?

If you ETTB'ers have not stopped by Kudzu's Reverbnation page, do! Videos galore. Charlie sings! They are a gritty four-piece rock and country band.

Smoky Mountain Brewery is a fine watering hole. For those of you who haven't been to one, it's basically a Calhoun's with a live music stage. When we do the ETTB GTG in Maryville, the idea is that those who want to hang out will head on over to this very same SMB that Kudzu is playing this Saturday.

So if anyone wants to check out both Charlie and Kudzu, and the location for the GTG hangout, head on to Maryville this Saturday night!
