| | Does this bass make my butt look big? | | Join Date: Jan 2012 Location: East Tennessee | | | As a guy old enough to remember when his earliest stuff came out, it was almost surreal. The set list was mind boggling to me. The newest song played was phili freedom was I never exactly upside down over. Funeral for friend, Levon, your song, rocket man, honey cat......the list goes on and on. Facet and Nigel there. Bass player was Matt Bissonette. He was so low profile that I am certain that Elton had to reach over and check his pulse. Part of it was that the songs dictate a lot o root note riding, which is clearly a waste of Matt's time and talent. He can console himself with the work tour checks. For anyone that cares, he was playing a natural Emma stingray 5. SWR 610 I think (badge removed) for stage. FOH on the bass was horrible boring but probably intentional. He did one 4 bar run cooking 5ths with Elton's triplet solo run. It sounded very unique with the piano and was definitely interesting. Bottom line, the concert was phenomenal and it's very easy to see why the guy still sells out all venues in minutes after 40 plus years on the charts.

I grew up listening to EJ as well and I've always been a big fan. He is truly, in my opinion, one of the most gifted musical talents of our time, if not all time. It may be boring to play the root note bass lines for him, but then again, who is going to tell Elton John to lay off the left hand?

He told me about some of their stuff and sent me some great pics and info. I have never personally heard any of these cabs, but I have to say that they are no doubt beautiful and from what everyone says sound amazing.
Can't wait to hear your reviews after Tuesday Zoomie!! |

I would bet that Charlie is gigging more than any of us right now. Or nobody else is posting their gigs here!
I was through Maryville yesterday and that place out there past Browns Creek Shopping Center, that used to be Lowell's Place, has changed hands again. I remember Jeff and others here on ETTB talking about playing gigs there, but I can't remember the name of it. Jeff, help me out.
Hopefully, the new owners will book live music.

Lol...thanks, its funny I was just mentioning at practice last night how I'm not digging this downtime between shows. That place was called Confused then Cherokee, we have played there under both names. I think the old Lowell's rep kinda kills it for whoever tries to start something there. Stage is narrow and wide.
