I asked him about that and he said it wouldn't happen 'cuz there was no one to sponsor it. If we really wanted to, we could always start a pool, I guess. I for one have always been interested to hear his opinion on the T-40.

You are completely delusional.

ha ha - this is quite a thread.

I claim no special knowledge of anything but I like Ed Friedland's reviews, he obviously is a great player, and he seems like a good guy.

Mechanical, not so much, but that's the 'net.

I like Ed and his reviews despite the disservice he has done to music, humanity, and Uncle Guisseppe...may he rest in peace.

I was invincible! I WAS Duff! I was BETTER than Duff! I was better than ALL of them! So naturally, the first thing I did was go out and prove to everyone just how awesome I was! We didn't have teh internetz back then, so I had to do it the old fashioned way - hanging out at the local music store, playing that intro over and over with the best gear in the shop. I made that Jay Turser bass sound like God's own voice through that 30-watt Crate amp. No one could touch me.
It is an utter crime that TB's board parameters would not allow for a sig this long.

my .02 is that the Mechanical dude is just a troll trying to get a rise.

Ed's teaching materials, whether book or dvd, have been a big help to me and may other folks around the world. Gonna go home this eve and continue my effort to get through the Bass Improvisation book.

Groovy player and fine soloist for certain. Thanks Ed.

I enjoy Ed Friedland's playing a lot, I think it's more musical than what we hear from a lot of bass heroes. I like the gear demos too, but I wouldn't really call them reviews because there is no real criticism. Great videos none the less, very useful.

Agreed. But I think that's OK. There's plenty of bashing that goes on. It's nice to hear "just the facts" and get a nice demo. I still want almost anything I hear him demo.

'Mechanical' is Ed's Evil Alter Ego.

I bought his Walking Bass Lines book a year ago...I'm still working on it, and forever will be...it's the hardest thing to do as a bassist IMHO, but that BassGods For Ed. His damn reviews will forever have my in GAS Hell..

Live long and Prosper Ed

I have known Ed for a while and have always dug his playing and he's a nice and respectful person. I really like what he was doing on his 6 string in the first video posted in this thread.

Ed seems to be very keen at balancing the abilty to be a well rounded and sincerely talented player, clinician and teacher and I wish him the best and many years to come for his contribution to bass is much appreciated not just by me but many more.

I have on occasion recommended Ed's books to my students over the years and will continue to do so.
