Entwistle and Sting Rays?

I'm a huge Who fan but must confess I don't know this - did John Entwistle ever play StingRays of any kind, and if so, what did he have to say about them? They seem to have a certain kind of tone that I would have guessed Entwistle would have favored.

Doesn't look like it. thewho.net's gear page doesn't mention it. He went from Fenders to 'Birds, then to Alembic, and finally Warwick, with Status somewhere in there, I think.
