it's not even him in the photo...no wonder, hahaha. I personally couldn't work for very long with the tag-team of drama queens that are Ferrel & Navarro.

Jane's Addiction, one of my favorite bands of all time, has been riddled with drama since its inception, and its no surprise to me that he left once again. Actually, I was quite surprised when I heard he would be touring with them again. Im only sad that I missed them in this formation once again.
I believe thats Chris Cheney in the photo in the article. He wrote for them in 2002/2003 when they embarked on tour and recorded their album Strays. They wrote some decent stuff on that outing, but it all paled in comparison to the material they wrote previously with Avery.

Eric, can't wait for your next solo effort.

Great player with a knack for writing super cool basslines that drove every song. Definitely in my top 10 influences as a bass player.
I'm bummed that he left before recording a new album (although I don't really blame him), but then I also read that his replacement might be...........Duff McKagan.
Duff is probably the biggest reason I play bass. Not because he's the best player, and as I said now I consider Eric Avery a much bigger influence, but I was 14 years old when "Appetite" came out, and it blew me away. And his sound cut through that mix unlike anything I'd heard- made me say "man, I wanna make THAT noise". Fender Jazz Special/Rotos/GK was very different at that time, although I didn't know it then. Still, love his GNR tone (didn't care for his sound on the last VR record, though), and if he can bring that to JA, then it could be just a little slice of heaven for me.
So again, love Avery ("Help Wanted" is a great album, BTW) and look forward to what he will do next, but I'm kinda excited if Duff were to join Jane's |

| | | | I concur with all of the stuff being said about Eric A.
One of my favorite bassists to listen to.
I dig Jane's okay, but without the rhythm section I probably wouldn't give them a second listen.
I absolutely love to crank up and play "3 days".
As previously mentioned, his lines really do drive so many of their songs right where they need to go.
He's a bad mofo IMHO. |

| | | | Good for Eric, he doesnt need those clowns. Polar Bear, Help Wanted, and Deconstruction proved that.
Such an intelligent guy with such integrity, I really look up to him for that besides just his awesome basslines that inspired me to play bass. |

| | | | saw JA last summer with NIN. Yawn. Played well, but not like the old days. Yep, there's a BIT of arrogance in that band! |

i wonder how this album will sound. trent reznor is producing it, i believe. ought to be interesting.

duff's gear really hasn't changed in 20+ years...... he still plays the same basses. well, fender custom shop's made exactly like his originals. (took his originals off the road and just uses them for studio now) still uses gk. only diff is he moved from the gk 400-->800-->2001rb. he doesnt really use effects, just a dirty channel and some chorus (yamaha spx-90) thats been about it...
so if duff's sound wasnt cutting through to your liking, blame the mixing/mastering of the album. i know i do
