Eric Avery and Tool

What if Eric Avery had excepted Maynards invitation to be in tool after Paul D Amour left the band, What would the music be like? I am a huge fan of Paul D Amour's playing with Tool and not so big on Chancellor's also I love Janes Addiction, I don't know if there's an answer but wow I wonder what direction Tool would have taken with Avery instead of Chancellor.

Well, one thing's for sure: Eric Avery would have made a lot of money.

Maybe I'm drinking the wrong stuff, although I don't hear much difference between D'amour and Chancellor...when I first heard "Stinkfist" I didn't even know Paul had left the band.

Many years later, I do hear the effects on the newer stuff....although I don't think he's using anywhere near what's being represented in posts. Sure, he's got a huge pedalboard......and he is using some effects....I still can't believe a bass player at that level can get away with the volume and presence that he has. Power to 'em!

No offense to Eric A, of course - as I've admired his work in JA. Not sure what else he's done. Big fan of the Chancellor here...so I probably won't be spending much time thinking "what if?"

I'm loving Eric Avery's new solo cd "Help Wanted". Good Stuff, very reminiscent to his last project Polar Bear (a few members of that group lend some playing on this latest cd).

Stinkfist, along with a good number of songs on that album, were actually done when Paul was still with the band--there's a few demos of the title track, Stinkfist, and a couple others (can't remember which all now) that had Paul on bass. So it sounds like Paul's lines, because they are

I haven't listened to Jane's Addiction much, so I can't really comment on what Tool might be like with Eric Avery instead of Chancellor.
