Sublime is timeless, awesome music that always makes me smile, the LBDA stuff is incredible ( my band covers 2 LBDA tunes and RAS1 is cool as hell). Lately Eric is playing drums in a band called Stonewing, Bud Gaugh has an outfit called DelMar, who is touring with the newly reformed "Sublime w/ Rome, featuring both Eric and Bud. Brad's old lady filed suit to stop them from using the name Sublime.
Eric's ability to improvise counter- melodic, walking bass lines is one of the things I really dig about his style.

It's weird, my first exposure to Sublime was "What I Got" on some mixtape a friend used to play a lot and I really hated it and wrote it off as some kind of "Feel Good hit of the Summer".
Then I came across the video for "Badfish" which I really liked and bought "40 Oz to Freedom" for a song. I admit that some songs on it come across as a bit juvenile and the production is kind of messy (fortunately the bass sound is always great, though) but overall I think it's a really strong album and I listen to it all the time when I feel like something uplifting. And it's true, Eric's groove really dominates that album.
It's also weird that Sublime always gets referred to as a "ska punk" band seeing as there are maybe three punk songs on it out of a total 22.

Nowell mixed 40 oz. to freedom himself with help from Miguel. It was recorded in various living rooms in Socal. All things considered I'd say it turned out pretty well. Definitely one of my favorites.

Not the best video but when the camera eventually moves off Bradley you get to see some of Wilson's effortless work.
One of my favourite lines to play this one, can't come anywhere near making it look this easy though.
Versioning is a perfectly acceptable part of Jamaican music styles - Wilsons interpretations were a big part of making sublime it's own thing imo.
