Erlend Caspersen - holy ****

Does anyone know anything about him? He plays for a bunch of death metal bands. I'm not much of a death-head so I don't know much about any of his bands.

I've never seen chops like his from a 24 year old guy before, especially not in metal.

How has this guy not landed a job with a big time band yet? I don't expect to see him at the top of the Billboard charts, but I don't think he is far off from a Alex Webster.

Its really, really hard to see chops in that genre.

He occationally posts on a Norwegian guitard forum. He's got a number of very nice 6-string basses (among others) and appearently he's also a Warwick endorsee.... and he's got monster chops, as you have seen.

Dextrous, but not very musical. It just sounds like a blizzard of notes.

I give him credit for his chops, though. That sweeping is certainly something I'll never be able to do.

awesome bassist

I wish he would do something instrumental though, still can't get into the screaming vocals associated with death metal.

has he done any instrumental stuff?

He is incredibly good. In terms of pure chops, he's probably the best metal bassist i've ever seen.

I don't know his music that much, but i have Altered Genesis (Blood Red Throne), and it is definitely an awesome record.

funny seeing this. rarely frequent here anymore, since im pretty busy with education, kid and working for different bands. anyways, as far as musicality goes, i don`t listen to much metal but i`ve . kind of got stuck in the genre since it`s where i first got noticed.
my first band, however, was pretty musical. a blend between primus and frank zappa . check out a few songs here http://www11.nrk.no/urort/user/?id=4383
just push "lytt" - listen.
