I actually have felt that way, and have trimmed down to only three basses. I don't like having basses sit around not being played.

When I get to four, I really can see that some really don't get any playing time. Right now, I'm at two, and I think that is cool where I am right now in terms of finances and my actual playing out.

Happens to me everyday. I like owning them although I`m not good enough to play them like they should.

the basses that i do have may not get as much play time as some others, but no matter what, i wont sell any of them, because they are all my first of there particular style, brand, or whatever, so my collection wont ever thin out.

I have two Bongos, one Rickenbacker, an EUB and an acoustic double bass. Still want a Kubicki Ex-Factor, a pre-Gibson Steinberger and a (non-existing) Stealth Bongo with ebony fingerboard.

I have too many. I could probably sell everything but my Precision and my Turser Beatle Bass and have all the basses I'll ever need for anything I do. But 4 of them are cheapos, and the other 5 have specific functions that you just never know if you'll need them, so I guess I'll keep them for a while longer.

I have 3, and one more would probably be my max. Unless I started heavily gigging, that'd be it.

I have 4 basses now, I used to own 10. Once you hit double digits, you gotta thin it out a bit..

Only when someone starts feeling like they've made one too many trips to WalMart.

Believe it or not, I think it's finally getting to me. I have 13 now with a 14th on the way (a cheapie 70s Japanese J-bass copy that will be a project for fun), which is nowhere NEAR as much as what a lot of others on this board have, but it's a lot nonetheless.

Last night, as I was preparing to practice, I actually had to start thinking about which bass to play before I even went to my practice room. It took me a while to decide.

If I had to do it over again, I'd probably have six basses:

- a nice 4-string J-bass (probably a Valenti)
- My 4-string MM stingray
- My 4-string System Craft fretless j-bass
- My 5-string Warwick Fortress
- My '83 Fender Precision
- My RobWave EUB

And yes - I would likely GAS my way back up to 14!

I don't mind hanging to many instruments. I buy most of my stuff used or at good discounts, so there is no expense in having them. ( I have 4 basses, and 4 guitars) I can turn around and sell them for the same amount i bought them for, or for a profit anytime, so unless I'm hurting for cash, I'll keep em all and add to them too when I find deals.

Currently ain't got enough.

Or rather, I presently don't have the one or two that I desire most.
