His name is JAXSN, and quite frankly I dont know what to make of him. I would really like everyones opinion on him. He is very cocky and full of excuses. So, am I judging him to hard or is he really that, odd? Here are his links please watch them all way. By the way he gives lessons.

Maybe he is great and I am just TROLLing, idk, but if someone could give there opinion that would be nice.

He's pretty good. He's not an a**hole but I kinda see what you mean about the excuses. I'd say he's pretty good, better than me for sure, but there are definitely many that are better imo

not to be a d*ckhead, and i'm not saying i'm jaco, but this guy doesn't know what he's doing. on top of having pretty bad tone and not being able to put together great sounding melodies/ note combinations in his solos, he really clearly can't keep time.

i would not take his "lessons" too seriously.

sorry, if i sound like a major jerk from saying all this.

Just a bunch of generic noodling. He's putting himself out there so I'll say it: another hack who shouldn't post himself on youtube. Everyone thinks they are a star these days.

A buncha what I call "music store licks". It would impress the kids at GC on a Saturday morning...

Sorry; he doesn't seem to have much in the way of actual groove or personality in his playing.

don't feel terrible... here's why...

do you play in time? if you can groove with a drummer then you're probably selling yourself short by saying someone like the guy in the video is better than you just cause he's playing a sh*tload of notes.

in the first video he b*tches out bass players who "play like guitar players" or whatever... then he goes on soloing on his highest strings for 5 minutes.

if you have good feel, you can be a good bass player that people will want to play with. it's NOT about playing lots of notes, and having lots of strings...

Honestly I agree with you. He seems like the type that would go to guitarcenter grab an 8x10 crank it all the way up and slap away and over power all the actual musicians who can dial in with a drummer. I dont really like to even practice if I dont have a decent drummer. I just find it hard to get timing perfect if i dont have a good drummer keeping a good tempo.

i think this guy has no feel so to speak. His slapping is kinda sloppy, and his definition of playing a bass like a bass, is just plucking the string a little harder than normal. Do what fits the music you're playing, i didnt pickup a bass to be the superstar of a band, but to back it up and fill in places that i think are lacking, thats what i look for in a good bass player. I dont think this guy can do that.

When I started the video(s) and he started going off and talking, I was hoping that all his cocky talking would be backed up. I was mistaken.

I didn't feel a groove or anything close to consistency. It felt a bit empty and lifeless, to be honest. I was hoping for a drum machine to come in at some point and actually play behind him so he might lock into some sort of groove, but that didn't happen.

I found it just plain boring.

Wow, kinda garbage! I usually keep the negative stuff to myself, but I really think this dude is an average bass player attempting techniques that are beyond his skill ability. Really rudimentary stuff, coated in absolutely ridiculous self-stroking excuses/statements and BS parlor tricks. Really bad.

wow i like this guy he's made me realise even my hopless noodling is better than some ha ha
i'm not a fan fair play for him having the stones to put his stuff on youtube (i certainly wouldnt be brave enough) but this is the sort of nonsense jabbering i do when i'm trying to dial in my tone at a soundcheck and i think that sounds pretty terrible too i sometimes feel embarrased afterwards lol

It might be just be, but I'm not really getting the whole 7 string thing. If I wanted to play that high up in the registers, I would have bought a guitar. I can appreciate solo bass players using their bass as a melodic instrument, but I'm a bit old fashioned and I like the bass being the foundation on the bottom end.

Sorry but I didn't get anything useful out of this video clip.

Jaxsn is average at best. Definitely NOT a solo bassist. I'd like to hear him in a band situation so I can further gauge. He's not bad but I think HE thinks he's better than he really is! Gotta say his basses sound horrible. Maybe all have dead strings or maybe it's just his technique. Not a pleasing sound at all.

Bass is a percussion instrument? All these years I thought it was in the strings section. What do I know?!

He's nothing amazing, but his poor presentation and inarticulate delivery makes it seem even worse.
