how do i get something close to the tone billy gould uses on 'the real thing?' any tips about basses, pickups, strings, eq etc etc etc will be welcome :P

He Was using Aria Basses and a pick back in the late 80's.
He switched to Zon later on.

Honestly, try a search on "Faith No More" or "Billy Gould": there's a thread on FNM and him at least twice a week.
