Which Famous Bassists change bass brands as Frequently as us TBers?

Which famous bassists change basses more often than many change their underwear?:D

Just curious as to which famous bassists you think would impress even the hardest core Talkbass Classifieds-lurking TBers with their GAS inspired buying/selling.

Also, what basses have the bassists in question been seen playing?

I can't think of many, but John Entwhistle was definitely at the top of the list in his heyday.

Chris Wolstenholme
Adam Clayton

Jason Black of Hot Water Music had a few basses through the years. Jeff Matz of High on Fire has also had a few.

Flea seems to play a lot of different ones. He's got a sig bass but plays fenders in videos and is also known for stingrays.

Ricky Phillips of Styx. He plays a different bass for almost every song.

David Ellefson has flip flopped.

RBrownBass 02-02-2013 01:26 AM

Chuck Rainey?

Josh Thatguy 02-02-2013 01:39 AM

Jaymi (of Talkbass, he's famous enough out here anyway).

I think the question is during a live show how many pros swap basses between songs.
I say JPJ, with Them Crooked Vultures he goes through 4 or 5 basses in a set.

+1

I've seen these two change basses after nearly every song. No brand loyalty whatsoever... Makes me shed a tear (and GAS pains)...

To me, famous players flipping basses is not that big a deal because they have the option of getting basses free or at highly reduced rates. Some players players like Lee Sklar and Chuck Rainey, have seemingly supplemented their incomes through endorsements.

Bruce Foxton: Ibanez Ric copy, Ric 4003, Fender P, MM Stingray (recording only), (was it) an Epiphone Hollow-Body, Aria SB-R60. Great bass player and inspiration to me. Probably why I have ended up with a Fender P and an Aria SB-1000.

And don't forget the Spector NS2's!

Michael Anthony, without a doubt...and then goes on to endorse said brands in the bass mags.

...I think you just finished watching the same TV show that I did:) I really dug the reverse head Tele and the modded Jazz 5'er.

Jeff Ament plays a crap ton of basses too. I've seen him use Stingrays, Lulls, Hamers, electric uprights, P basses, and J basses.

I learn something new every day here. I thought he primarily plays Yamaha basses and Peavey amps.
