"I use brand X, because they pay me to" or "I have bought brand X for several years now, and they don't break". I always see the advertisements and wonder do they really use what they endorse. I remember reading about a bass player in the 80's who used a certain peice of gear in his rack, Lots of full page adds in all the guitar mags at the time. When he did an article in bass player magazine he said that the peice in question was for a distortion tone only. I have never heard this guy use distortion before on any of his albums or live when I saw him. The truth would set some of us free when we are looking for guidance on gear. |

You have to take endorsements with a grain of salt. use your own ears to make choices.
Even with the old arguments like pick vs fingers.....who cares...use what works for YOU and sounds good for YOU. this requires some experimentation, patience and experience. People just want instant answers these days.
I can guarantee you that if you got the exact same rig as Entwistle you would still sound like YOU.

The truth would set some of us free when we are looking for guidance on gear. | The "truth" might also cause one to become a "former endorser."

In a former life.. I was endorsed.. you really don't do this unless you believe it.

Kenny G's bass player, Vail Johnson comes in occasionally, to berate us all!! And Jeff Berlin has had a long love-hate relationship with TB!!
