Farewell Jackie Orszaczky

Sign in to disble this ad
I just found out that Jackie Orszaczky passed away on Sunday morning.

He died from complications arising from his ongoing treatment for cancer. He had been gigging until shortly before his death.

Jackie was a great bass player, singer, songwriter and arranger - and friend. Sydney's musical scene will be much poorer for his passing.

I have been told there will be a private funeral with only family members attending - and later on some sort of a memorial event is planned.

I will let you know as soon as I hear anything more.

Peace.

I just received the following from a friend of Jackie's:

"Early on Sunday morning, Jack died in hospital in Camperdown. He had been in there for a few days and it was clear to him that this was the end. On Tuesday he said in that wry tone, "I feel I am finalising." He said that he felt at peace and ready to face death.

Jack had been having treatment for lymphoma for nearly two years.

Jack leaves behind his partner Tina, their daughter Mia and his first daughter, Anna.

There will be a private funeral for the family.

Instead of a big funeral, Jack asked that everyone come along to a wake, a gathering of musicians, friends and fans. He specifically wanted just a quiet, small funeral.

The wake is on Sunday, 10 February at the Harold Park Hotel, Wigram Rd, Glebe from 4pm. Jack asked that we remember him not with too much 'public' speaking but with music.

There is a special tribute concert being put together now - and information will come to this email list as soon as the details are settled."

Jack

That's a real shame.

Figures like Jackie don't come along very often. He was a great player, a really approachable guy and a very cool cat.

We have been blessed to have had him around.

It truly is a loss. Jack was an inspiration to many. We are lucky to have had him around and lucky that he passed his influence to the numerous musicians he played with over the years. May they carry on his good work.

I'm from Hungary, the country where Jackie was born, and started his carreer, before he left for Australia. It's nice, that you read about him in international forums. I've been so fortunate to listen to him, when he visited home.
I don't think he passed since his music is present!

Love you Jack

For the last ten years a small part of my brain was always occupied with trying to work out when I could see Jack again...
