Favorite Funk/Blues/NOT ROCK bassist/band

Basically I'm just wondering what some good Funk and/or Blues bands/bassists are. Or really any kind of music, just not rock, I already know enough about rock.
So, what are your favorites?

I think it would have to be someone who's missing a soul.

Funkadelic's Maggot Brain is one of my all-time favorite albums.

I also really dig Sly and the Family Stone.

WOW. That is some serious funk bass.

Youtube it. Check out the tune "Glide"...whew! In particular, youtube guru MarloweDK has a cool clip of him playing along with it.

MarloweDK is awesome, I'll definetly have to check that out. But I haven't heard much on the blues-y side of things. Anybody?
