Favorite Paul McCartney bassline?

Sign in to disble this ad
In honor of Paul's recent 64th birthday? What do you all think is his best bassline?

Many to choose from. Here's a few to start off with: Rain, Hey Bulldog, Something, and Baby You're a Rich Man.

Happy Birthday, Sir Paul!

Excellent choices! I love those two an "Strawberry Fields Forever". That song, along "The Lemon Song" by Led Zeppelin, made me want to play bass.

Yah, Hey Bulldog has some really nasty/wild bass stuff in it; like he was playing right on the edge of his abilities and letting it all go. Glad to hear that song mentioned, as it's not on most people's lists.

When I'm Sixty Four ain't bad either, and then there's Lovely Rita.

I wonder if he has songs he wishes he could rework. I mean, he's kinda stuck right now because people expect certain things, but in his heart of hearts I wonder if he has ones where he cringes every time he hears it.

That would be a funny conversation.

From what I've read I think the whole "Back to the Egg" album qualifies, though I personally like that record a whole lot.

Shout out for Goodnight Tonight.

Sorry, just remembered "Think For Yourself."

I heard that as I was first getting into playing and I remember thinking "You're allowed to DO that with a bass?"

Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkeyis a totally badass track.

With A Little Help From My Friends is as good as the best Brian Wilson bass part.

Right now I'll say "One after 909", especially the part when the guitar solo kicks in.

Got to say:
Dig A Pony and Let Me Roll It (played on fretless with plenty of sustain)

This bass break from EGSTHEMAMM has always amazed me. Another line that I like a lot is "You Never Give Me Your Money", specially the last section (One, two, three, four, five, six, seven...).

What about Helter Skelter, especially the unison line with Harrison? Also +1 for Lucy in the Skywith Diamonds.

My question is ...at what point did McCartney become Macca?

Is it a tabloid or internet thing? It kind of annoys me.
