In addition to some of what's already been said, Chris Squire, John Wetton, Tony Levin, Juan Alderette, Greg Lake, Roger Waters (David Gilmour)...there are plenty more.

Joey Vera (Fates Warning)
Trey Gunn (King Crimson) (technically Stick and Warr Guitar, but I don't care)
Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree)
Sean Malone (Cynic, Gordian Knot)

Great list so far.

I'd also like to nominate the late Gary Strater of Starcastle.

Wow, great to see Hope, Strater, Laird in here--they don't get the props they deserve.
At the end of the day though, as an old prog-head, it all comes back to Squire for me.

I vote Squire, but my prog rock knowledge is pretty much limited to rush, yes, pink floyd, dream theater....etc

Check out Graeme Murray from Scottish Prog Rockers Pallas: Great Rick' with a pick!

Go to tracks for me would be Mr Wolfe on The Dreams of Men (0:53 is when he comes in with a bang!); Midas Touch on The Cross and the Crucible; Beat the Drum on Beat the Drum; Cut and Run on the Sentinel.

Not only does he play a mean bass, he's got a great set of pipes to and does stellar back up and occasional lead. He also run's a law firm in his spare time, but let's not hold that against him! Pallas were in the US a couple of years ago playing a festival in PA not sure if anyone out there caught them. Ironically I was back in Scotland when they were over here.
