Just watched the last waltz again for the first time in years and had forgotten how good Rick Danko was. Seen Dylan a lot in the last ten years or so and love Tony Garniers work.
Just wondering...how many bassists has he worked with? Who is your favourite? |

Also the bassist from the Paul Butterfield band on his first electric performance plays some tasty sh**. Always loved Harvey Brooks on Highway 61 Revisited. Interesting to learn that John Sebastian recorded some of the bass tracks on Bringing It All Back Home. Never would have guessed that. Also I think Charlie McCoy on John Wesley Harding recorded some of the best bass lines on any Dylan album.
As you, I love Tony Garnier's work. As you can see, I love many of Dylan's bassists :P But on the last few albums the bass work has been very good.

Dylan has had some killer bassists.
Rob Stoner, had my favorite tone. |

However, Dankos work on Blonde on Blonde for me is the epitome of how bass can support the wonder of Dylans lyrical wordsmithery. Visions of Johanna gives me chills every time I hear it. |

I suppose if anything it shows how magical Dylans songwriting was to be able to give both bassists the capacity to shine without outshining each other....if that makes sense?! |

True, Danko's all around plying is king.
