Hey boys-
me and my bandmates have been working for like 6 months on getting the same sound as korns bass player?
How can I obtain that sound?
Does he just have a REALLY REALLY nice bass?

its SO much more than "just a good bass."

try to get the same amp he has, and you'll be more in the ballpark.

LOL......Lots of mid scoop and too much treble should get you there. At least for the korn I know.

His sound is a combination of his gear and technique... As far as I know he uses Ibanez Soundgear basses - you can find a K5 used for a decent deal, I've seen one for around $700 before... I would think that he would use it since it was made for him.

Question for you though, why would you want to sound like someone else?

Less than $1,000 for the bass, by the way, and welcome to Talkbass!

crank the treble, use new SS roundwound strings, cut the mid.

I found it to be an easy tone to get with just about any setup

It's the brand of rosin he uses. You better post this in
the Double Bass Rosin forum to get the right kind of
responses.

Lightbulb hmmm...

Active pups or pre, boost the bass and treble and scoop the mids pretty broadly. It helps to use a graphic eq to dial it in. Using a Cab with a hi fequency Tweeter also really helps bring out that click.

Mesa Basis M-2000 with the midrange completely scooped and the treble sliders all the way up, also stainless steel Dean Markley Blue Steels and low action will help you get his "tone".

Honestly his tone is terrible, its just super clicky and very tinny.

The K5 probably helps, its got the midrange sweep so as fieldy says on the Ibanez website, “Take the midrange and turn that $%#@$ off”.

As does floppy strings and hitting them too hard.

Don't forget to factor in the extra-long strap with the bass (and pants) at your knees...

Well Korn plays a whole step down, plus Fieldy slaps almost exclusively. The looseness of the strings plays a part in the "purcussive" sound that you hear. He cranks the bass & treble and completely cuts out all mids from both his bass and amp. That's a start.

I know, I thought it was because his bass is usually vertical so you poking fun at him for being a DB'er???

And holding the bass in a way that makes the neck point straight up in the air.

Damn, I just have to say that i personally really hate his tone. It's terrible!
