He was the reason I started bass and still my biggest influence...for me, the most musical bassist I have ever heard...listen to Theme for an imaginery western and Nantucket Sleighride...exquisite and perfect bass...I cant understand why he is almost never mentioned....who knows?
Of Course I meant to write...FELIX

And if you're a fan of Mountain, check out the book 'Nantucket Sleighride', it's basically Leslie and Corky remembering the glory days of Mountain. It's pretty hilarious, and has lots of great Felix stories.
Great Felix quote (might be a bit wrong):
"Anything that can be played quietly, can be played LOUD."

| | | | Feliz Pappalardi Yes that is Felix -
I got to see him play in Mountain and he was tremendous!
A powerful player when necessary, but also some very beautiful bass lines. He produced several of Cream's first albums.
Wonder how much he learned working with Jack Bruce? |

Wonder how much he learned working with Jack Bruce? | Actually it was more what Jack learned from him!..Apparently JB couldnt play some of the lines that Felix wrote and felix played them himself....I remember reading about it in an interview.

He was largely responsible for getting stuff out of the way and getting the music on tape for Cream. He was an arranger (did a lot of folk music string arrangements) before Cream, and he only played bass on on Cream song, from the "Goodbye" album. That's "What A Bringdown", the song Ginger Baker wrote for the final Cream album. Felix plays keys (piano and mellotron) on other Cream songs ("Passing The Time", "Badge", "Doing That Scrapyard Thing", and "Anyone For Tennis"). He's also the violas that give "White Room" that very cool intro, and he played trumpet on "Those Were The Days".
Noting I've ever seen from either Jack nor Felix ever showed anything but huge respect and love for each other, and never any mention of one not being able to play something the other wrote.

First concert I ever seen was Mountian at the Boston Tea party.
Felix has a huge, destorted, wonderful tone.
I ran out a bought a 1968 Gibson EB1 after that show.
Along with a Sunn 200s Amp, with matching 2x15 cab.
The bass and amp are long gone.
But every time I hear a Mountian song I just smile. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
