Fender Bass question? HELP!

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently purchased an older Fender Jazz Bass guitar. It is in really good condition (Black)and has the old Fender case included with it. I have looked at the Fender serial number websites and it dates to 1976 I believe. It is: 597003 I am not certain of this being a 1976 model or not? Ithas a 4 bolt patterned neck and all I see is 3 bolt patterns. It is intact with the ash tray bridge cover, original pickups and tuners all Fender.. When I take off the neck there are some numbers 03-76 then some faded letters in ink. Can anyone help with this please?

I am not certain to what I have bought?

Any decent vintage guitar store should help you to date the Fender. They're not that rare. Don't expect GC or "Moe's Corner Axes" to help - you need to find a store that deals in vintage guitars. Email the guys at LowEnd or Gruen (sp?) in Nashville.

FWIW, my 67 JB has the four bolt neck. I don't recall what the numbers were on the base of the neck.

Good Luck,

3 bolt Micro-Slip started in 73. I think your bass is older than you think it is. Only way to be sure is check the dates on the pots and pickups.
