First Jam session in 20 years.

So I went and met some dudes from craigslist. Musical tastes we should be married. All 3 of us. They started off wanted to do Tom Sawyer and Limelight. So I pulled them into guitar pro and started working on the bass lines, as I only remember my butchered guitar parts over the last 20 years. To make a long story short, they accepted my playing even though I played like crap and we had fun. Funny how I play better by myself than with others at this point. Going to work with the drummer today to get more comfortable. Certainly a challenge to start with Geddy Lee stuff at this point. Into it though!

Dude, keep working on it. It's so much more fun actually playing with other guys.

I have a similar story as yours. I played in a band back in the mid to late 60's. Just picked-up the bass again since my retirement and played for awhile at home to CDs, etc. I have started going to open mic/jam sessions at some of the blues clubs where I live. There are some excellent musicians that show up and they have all been very welcoming. But, the point of the whole story is that you have to play with other musicians to get better. You just get better much quicker playing with others. If you practice at home, you only get better at practicing, not playing. There is a huge difference. Keep jamming as often as you can.

I have my wife and kids come down and listen to my playing once in a while, surprising that I seem to mess up more when someone is watching so its good practice.

I just got back from working with the drummer and we are both pleased with the progress made. Fun, fun and improve with every session. Now if I could just get my speed and dexterity up to play Geddy's lines I would be ok. Practice, practice.............
