Flea and Josh Grobin at BCS game

Anyone just see Flea backing up Josh Grobin singing the national anthem at the Texas/Alabama game? He was playing one of his Flea basses through and ampeg rig. Couldn't really hear him myself, but Grobin sounded great.

You got me. I liked the drums, though.

Yeah, could barely hear Flea, and he seemed a little thrown-off by Grobin's phrasing.

And not to hijack the thread, but McCoy heading to the locker room after the first drive of the game was possibly the worst thing that could have happened to UT. What a nightmare.

Is Flea no longer endorsed by Gallien Krueger? Was surprised to see an all Ampeg rig...

PS - that bass he was playing = ugly. I can't imagine he actually played that bass... probably just did it on TV to help sales of his bass.

That was an odd National Anthem. Singer, bass and horns. But, it was cool to see Flea anyway.

He is still endorsed by GK...he was simply playing a backlined rig. Notice the Ampeg SVT CL matched with the BXT-410. I'm sure it was whatever they had around. I heard him pretty well through my buddy's amazing sound system and the phrasing definitely was off for a bit when Grobin was singing.

That's on Grobin, not Flea. Pretty sure Flea's sense of time is a whole lot better than Grobin's.

I couldn't hear Flea very well. He's out there in a T-shirt and sweatpants... Grobin in front... And then you've got this drummer back there in a suit... some horns... and the only thing I could keep thinking was, "what a totally odd mix of talent. Who thought this up?"

It was kind of refreshing in a way though to at least see them try and mix it up a little. The whole "divas-singing-the-Anthem-a capella" thing is way beyond played-out.

they start out in 3/4 time and then the percussion and horns come in and it switches to 4/4 time, and then back to 3/4 again.

hmmmm
