Flea loses house to Malibu fire

Sign in to disble this ad
From AOL news:

One resident who reportedly lost his home was Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, whose real name is Michael Balzary, property records showed. He wrote in a text message that a house he owned "had burnt to a crisp," the Los Angeles Times reported.

....Hope he was insured.

Third time I've seen this now

So was it his home or just a house he owned? Also, not to downplay a bad situation, but if anyone can afford to lose a house(as long as that vintage Jazz wasn't there)it would be the Flea.

I would bet (hope) he cleared out all expensive items from his house before the fire got to it.

it's actually been clarified on the official RHCP board that the house was his, but was being rented out to someone.
im thinking his jazz bass is safe, but thats still an unfortunate situation.

Well, it's not likie he'd lose anything he couldn't replace, apart from maybe that rare jazz bass.

Glad to hear he's ok though.

I don't think it was a sudden thing. Most residents had lots of time to clear out valuable and sentimental items from what I understand.

It sucks, but this type of fire is much better than one caused by faulty wiring or gas IMO.

Part of Malibu catches fire about every two years. About every 10 years, there's a huge conflagration. This has been going on forever. Nobody should be allowed to live there.

Not sure if anyone's posted this, but the house was being rented to musician/producer Butch Walker. Apparently he lost everything he owned in the fire - all his studio/music gear, personal possessions, and family heirlooms. The story's been on the radio here in ATL since he's a former resident. A sad story for all involved.
