Flea is my new Idol...

for exercise.....

I have always dug his bass playing, but after I caught the RHCP "Off the Map" Live Concert DVD from 2001 - wow!!

Those dudes are super frenetic, muscle ripped, 6 pac abs, high jumpin, rockin performers. Its like Richard Simmons on acid doing a 2 hour exercise video. Flea was 40 when he did the show and wow..Wish I looked that good and had some of those great moves to go with his grooves. Watch the pre-concert film clips and those guys are doing some major stretching warm-ups.

Gotta lose the gut now...

I like him too, but don't try to emulate everything he does and think it is gonna work for you. For example, he does some fairly unorthodox things that you might think are cool, but might not be such a great idea.

For example:

1) Heavy duty stretching before gigs. There is ample evidence that this is not such a good idea and can lead to weakening of muscles and tendon damage. Try simple limbering movements rather than crazy stretching.

2) I once saw Flea apply a bottle of superglue to a gash in the side of his thumb. Now while a medical professional may use cyanoacrylate to repair a flesh wound, self medicating and simply injecting 5 grams of glue into an open wound is not such a great idea.

They are nuts and have been doing this for a while. God bless them.

I like Flea, but I don't think he is the be-all-and-end-all. He is, however, the only reason I'd even consider listening to RHCP!

You haven't listened really closely to what the guitar player, John Frusciante, is doing then. He is a beyond great guitar player

And yes Flea can play bass. Go listen to some of their early stuff. If you can keep up with Flea's crazy slapping then you are a better man than me. The stamina and accuracy he has is mind boggling.

Exactamente....This thread is about how physically energetic Flea and the other peppers are during a show vs. ye olde stand-there-with-an-inner-tube-around-the-waist players like myself.

Inspired...Went to the gym this morning

I have nothing against Flea...but don't listen to him because I just can get beyond RHCP's God-awful vocals.
