Flea slap

Okay, I know most of you are gonna say use the search function, but if I typed in "Flea" or "slap" or both, I'd get endless results. Anyway, I heard that Flea slaps/pops so hard he gets holes in his finger tips that he has to fill with superglue, sounds crazy but it could be true, is it?

theres a scene in the old "psychedelic sex funk live from heaven" concert video (mothers milk era) where he fills a hole in his thumb with superglue and tapes it up, yeah

also a great way to see a young john "greenie" frusciante before he turned into a dirty hippie degenerate

Contrary to popular belief, not all of us are anal about TB'ers using the search function for everything.

If Flea is making holes in his fingers, I'd say he's slapping a little too hard.

Stuff like that can happen to you with fingerstyle as well, though, according to a bunch of TBers, superglue works pretty well to "fix" the wound temporarily so you can go on playing.

Hmmm, on the other side of politics are we?

From my understanding, Superglue works wonders for the gigging bassist. And of course, Duct Tape can solve just about any problem in itself. Getting back on topic, Flea has stated before that his slapping is not what most would consider "proper technique", and he does quite enjoy digging in his fingers as hard as he can when he's playing.

Holes in his thumbs and fingers? I think the guy needs to chill out, that sounds a little excessive!

I heard that Krazy glue was developed for military use in the field. Soldiers would seal up their wounded buddies with krazy glue so that they wouldn't bleed to death before reaching the med building.

I dunno, some nurse from vietnam came to our school and told us that. I'm not sure if its true or not.

edit: according to Wikipedia, it is true: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krazy_Glue

read the medicine section

yeah, from my understanding cyanoacrylate (krazy glue, zap-a-gap etc) was developed as an instant substitute for sutures and stitches

krazy glue uses different formula than those in medical usage. If you're gonna use krazy glue, make sure it doesn't get into your blood stream since it's toxic.

yeah cyanoacrylate is poison read the cyano bit its made from cyanyde so DONT get it in your blood, saying that it is good for fixing you up when you rip your skin on your bass or guitarists stupid strings hanging out of the bloody tuners, just make sure there is NO BLOOD at the wound and the skin can wrap back over to be held (dont put the glue under the flap of skin apply to the skin from above) and Gaffer tape over to protect. do this ONLY as a last resort

back to flea his slap style is very loose and 'sloppy' but it is still cool (he uses a claw shape with his hand over the strings pointed towards the neck instead or a thumbs up buddy christ style) and its VERY easy to get carried away and rip fingers to bits esp with steel strings and a low action
