My vote is for "Funky Monks" #4 off of "Blood Sugar Sex Magik", especially the outro part. Of course, you are going to get as many opinions as there are songs in their catalog.

I love apache rose peacock off BSSM. no slapping or anything, but very funky and melodic bass line in that song.

Tough one, I'll pick 4

Fight like a brave- Uplift mofo
Johhny kick a hole in the sky-Mothers milk
Me and my friends-freaky stylie
And I don't care how much of a poser answer it is, Higher ground is pretty damned funky

OHM pre commercial RHCP! LOL! That was a good one!

Around the World is pretty damn funky, whether you think "commercial" RHCP has no cred or not. I'd also say Sir Psychosexy from BSSM and Young MC's Bust a Move.

I'm gonna have to give +1 to Aeroplane off One Hot Minute. If you want some straight up slappin', slidin' booty from a white guy, that's the track. One of the band's funkiest overall is Walkabout from that same album. I think One Hot Minute is one of the most underrated albums of its time.

Another favorite (not the funkiest, though) is My Lovely Man from BSSM. He and Chad stick together like glue through that entire song and just drive it home. One of the Peppers' finest. If you don't have that album, get it. Now. THE rock album of the 90's.

Hey, I ain't gonna argue that point! I for one loved OHM. I didn't think navarro was a great fit, but that album has a bunch of gems. I may be in a minority among the super duper obsessed RHCP fans, but its a damn good album. SO is their real initial commercial album, argueably BSSM. That album is one of those albums that gets aband popular becasue its good enough to do it.

Oh yeah, that just reminded me big +1 on walkabout

I'd vote for the entire body of work from the BSSM era, including the song from the Wayne's World soundtrack (Silimilanco?)and Coneheads soundtrack (Soul to Squeeze). I know that doesn't answer the question directly, but as a band I thought they were so locked in, that the entire album start to finish should be looked at as one piece of work with different moods and textures.

Im obsessed with the Chilis right now. I'm gonna say Mellowship Slinky of BSSM, Johnny Kick a Hole in the Sky off of Mother's Milk, or Black-Eyed Blonde off of Freaky Styley.

Sikamikanico, and I dont think that's really that funky. Awesome, for sure, but not really funky.

while his grammar was awful, you misread him entirely.

"the solo in coffee shop off of one hot minute or most of aeroplane imo, as far as pre-commercial RHCP, i'd say everything"
should be read as
"the solo in coffee shop off of one hot minute or most of aeroplane imo; as far as pre-commercial RHCP, i'd say everything"

and thus, you misread him to mock him.

my say would go to Yertle the Turtle.
or really if you want me to stay, but stealing one from Sly Stone doesn't really count.

Yeah, my bad. I am known for being a guy who does that. I hope that is the worst thing that happens to him all week though, as that would qualify as a pretty decent week. It is fairly common that when one reads something they don't always hear it in the voice of the writer. But now his honor is restored and I am vanquished.

not funky in the typical sense, but "soul to squeeze". originally came out on the coneheads soundtrack and i think it was a b-side to one of their singles from bssm.

THIS by a long shot, I know RHCP were originally a "funk rock" band, but I never really felt like it was that funky...they all tended to "overplay" everything to the point of stepping all over the grooves (IMO of course). I pulled up every song mentioned in this thread, and Bust a Move is really the only one that doesn't sound like a total ClusterF.
