Foghat Slow Ride Bass Timing

Sign in to disble this ad
Throwing out the obvious questions WHY? I need to learn Slow Ride by Foghat. I have played the song a zillion times on guitar but this is the first time as a bassist.

My problem is I cannot get the timing right to come in on the intro riff. I am always late to where it FEELS I need to come in. Am I missing something?? I always come in with the BAND right...but I am behind on that opening bass lick where the bass kind of kicks the song into gear.

Not sure exactly where you're supposed to be kicking this tune into gear...although-

For other things that may not always kick a tune into gear on the DOWNBEAT...ya gotta count.
Example: If the bass kicks in on the "& of 1"...I count (as the drummer clicks off...if he's so inclined) a 1-bar lead-in plus the bar where I'm supposed to start (in BOLD).
1...2...3....4...l1.&.2.&.3e&.4.&.l "Slow Ride..."

The bass lick comes in on the 1 of bar 8 (not including the drum intro...)
