i just bought the Alkimia cd - and it has some amazing tunes on it !!
i believe that Franc is one of the greatest unsung heroes of bass playing...
his fretless playing is one of the best I've heard in a while.

check his Alkimia cd !!

I've seen Franc play those tunes with his own band locally - he lives and teaches in Brighton and I see him occasionally along the seafront!

I've had classes/lessons with Franc in the past and seen him play live quite a few times!

I'm glad you reminded us about the CD though - just ordered my copy!

I just got the Alkimia cd in the mail- such a great album. I often don't like "bass player" albums- quite often the basslines are great and the music is bland. Not on this one- the music is fantastic and lively. There are small interludes of slower solo fretless with lots of harmonics that show Jaco's influence, but the rest of the cd is filled with really wild, extremely active fretless work that's completely unique. This one is going to be at the top of my favorites for a while. Thanks to Mike Flynn for mentioning his name in another thread- this guy is a fretless inspiration.

I've know Franc since 1999 when I first met him after I moved to Brighton - and we've been friends ever since, he actually gave me a demo for Alkimia about 4 years ago and the time and effort he spent on that album is incredible - it's a deeply beautiful record and aside from Franc's sublime playing his writing, arranging and production / engineering are all top notch - the guy should be as famous as any other bassist out there - but he's found it tough to get promoters and venues interested in putting on his full flamenco show - it comes down to money unfortunately.

Franc is a great guy and immensely knowledgable about music, he's currently writing a book on theory - I'm so glad some of you are discovering him for thge first time, he's one of my biggest influences - and I'm lucky when we have the chance to jam - he's the man

Mike

His myspace is here http://www.myspace.com/francosheamusic

PS Franc told me that Marcus Miller also bought a copy of Alkimia... pretty cool eh?
