I saw him play w/Steely Dan last year and it was the best Pbass performance I've ever witnessed!

I concur-the P-bass that Freddie played on that song is the best that I have heard! He is a groove master!!!

i saw him play with steely dan a couple of years ago, he was off the chain. grooving and so tasteful. there's a guy who knows what's up

I have a Fender MIM P and rarely even touch it. It's not the greatest bass in the world but the challenge to get that tone would be worth the experimentation. That link was sent to me via email from one of my non musician friends who respects me as a bassist and I appreciate that. Certainly made my day

That is the classic bright roundwound, full treble, P-bass slap tone. That used to be my favorite slap tone of all until I subconsciously became a Jazz bass oriented player.
