The thing goes like this.I wanted to buy a fretless cause I wanted to experience something different. I actually had never played fretless before except from very few times and not for long. I loved its sound but really didn't know how it will fit with my playing style.
So I bought a Lakland 4-94 deluxe fretless and yesterday was brought to me. I discovered that it really is a whole new experience and loved it so much, I couldn't let it off my hands! I actually didn't want to touch my fretted!!
Has anybody else experienced such an excitement not necessarily changing from a fretted to a fretless, but more generally speaking. |

Ever since I got my fretless (just a cheap squier VM jazz) it doesn't seem worth it to pick up my fretted bass anymore. I'm considering getting a cheap fretted SX P/J to see if that's more fun to play and to work on more funk and rock/pop oriented stuff (I play mostly jazz on the fretless.) |

It was awesome and, to be honest, I was actually surprised at how easy it was to play. Of course, it was a couple years later that I bought an SX fretless jazz. I still love the feel and sound of fretless and I make room for it in the music I play, but I feel much more versatile on fretted - especially now that I'm playing a 7.

Of course mine has got line where the frets are supposed to go, but nevertheless I expected it to be quite harder. And I absolutely love the tone I'm getting, so much more organic than a fretted bass. It's the one I play the most at the moment. |

| | | | The very first fretless I had played was a Fender Jazz bass, maybe a replica of Jaco's or something. It really sounded great, and my intonation wasn't that bad either.
When I first played my warwick fretless corvette, I couldn't put it down.
I plan on using the fretless in whatever music I want.
Other than the fretless, I remember trying out a six string for the first time, and I really really liked it. In fact, I plan on buying it as soon as I get the money.
So yeah, I've had that feeling before.

I bought an SX jazz, thought frets had no right being on a bass, ripped them out, did some more mod work to it and it has been a very, very excellent bass ever since. It wasn't until about two weeks ago that I purchased my first fretted bass. (Well, I purchased the body, had a fretted neck made). The fretted bass is great to have mainly for the option of just having a fretted bass when a fretted bass might prove more useful. However, I learned to play on a fretless, and that is what just seems natural to me, so the fretted spends a lot of its time on its stand. |

| | | | I started playing fretless-5 in 1989 and had no trouble with the transition. I played fretless exclusively until about 3 years ago, and 5 string until about a year ago. Now I've been paying fretted 4 and just bought a fretless G&L L2000. It's weird, but I can't put the fretted bass down now!!! I'm sure I'll start playing the fretless when the music calls for it. Right now I'm playing a lot of trad-blues and the fretless doesn't feel "right". | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
