A friendly reminder of why Pino is the man!

Check it out, Pino with D'angelo back in the day. I love all the memorable little hooks that he throws in. They'll be there for a few bars and then he'll move onto something else entirely. He even lays down a smooth little slap bit starting at about 3:12.

Showing an old clip only shows why Pino WAS the man.

Not disagreeing that pino is, in fact, the man.

There are a lot of amazing bass players out there but not many can groove like Pino. That's why he's pretty much my favorite player that's still alive.

It sure would be nice to see Pino doin some more funk. I think the Who have had him long enough. He plays on a few tracks of I.G. Culture's new disc Zen Badizm. Well worth getting. Thanks for the clip.

Pino IS the man!

I like his playing with Steve Jordan in JM3.
That duo can hold their own among the best EVER.

Pino is my favorite. I'm sure it's been posted here a thousand times, but I like this one even better. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4XI6LXCsH8

Fretless Master!

As of lately, Pino has been pictured on fretted basses. His fretless work with GO WEST, and PAUL YOUNG, will always be my favorite.

In many ways, Pino is the perfect sideman. Nothing he plays blows me away technically, but he never plays a wrong note! In fact, I was shocked on that clip of "Lady" that he came in about a beat too late on one of those breakdowns.

When a player is that good, any slip up is a shock!

Pino is such a pocket player that just seems to know how to fit into any musical genre and make you think it's his specialty. I dig that.

I wish he'd make some music with a good BAND. The Who is the Who, he can't really be himself in there, John Mayer, well you can only take so much of that guy, and D'angelo well if you don't like hip hop or r and b you're out of luck. He's so awesome, I wish he'd just get together with some guys and put out a jazzy/funk/pop/groove album. Just do some instrumental jam stuff so we could hear him rip for real.

I can listen to all that stuff and appreciate the bass playing and all. But I looked through my ipod the other day and realized there was only about ten bands I actually liked on the whole thing. I was listening to all the other groups just because of the bass playing. lol. I've gotten some funny looks lately for some of the stuff on there too.

All three of those artist are pretty much at the top of the genres! He has a dream career in my book, he gets to rock and play R&B and make some cash too. He also has recorded with some heavy jazz cats like Al DeMeola and David Sanborn. Sometimes people forget just how long a history Pino has with Townsend, that might explain his loyalty to the Who besides playing some of great classic material and nice payday. I saw the Who a few years ago with Pino and they were on fire.
