Check it out, Pino with D'angelo back in the day. I love all the memorable little hooks that he throws in. They'll be there for a few bars and then he'll move onto something else entirely. He even lays down a smooth little slap bit starting at about 3:12.

Not disagreeing that pino is, in fact, the man.

I like his playing with Steve Jordan in JM3.
That duo can hold their own among the best EVER. |

In fact, I was shocked on that clip of "Lady" that he came in about a beat too late on one of those breakdowns.
When a player is that good, any slip up is a shock!

The Who is the Who, he can't really be himself in there, John Mayer, well you can only take so much of that guy, and D'angelo well if you don't like hip hop or r and b you're out of luck. He's so awesome, I wish he'd just get together with some guys and put out a jazzy/funk/pop/groove album. Just do some instrumental jam stuff so we could hear him rip for real.
I can listen to all that stuff and appreciate the bass playing and all. But I looked through my ipod the other day and realized there was only about ten bands I actually liked on the whole thing. I was listening to all the other groups just because of the bass playing. lol. I've gotten some funny looks lately for some of the stuff on there too. |

He has a dream career in my book, he gets to rock and play R&B and make some cash too. He also has recorded with some heavy jazz cats like Al DeMeola and David Sanborn. Sometimes people forget just how long a history Pino has with Townsend, that might explain his loyalty to the Who besides playing some of great classic material and nice payday. I saw the Who a few years ago with Pino and they were on fire.
