I searched a little and did not find anything specific on this topic. I like knowing a bunch of worthless junk like this - - -

Waylon Jennings was Buddy Hollys Bassist.
Keaneu Reeves plays bass for Dogstar

That kind of stuff...

The bassist in Animal House

From IMDB.com:

The bass player in the band Otis Day and the Knights is then-unknown bluesman Robert Cray. Cray was instrumental in getting the musicians together that appeared as the band.

The Fretless bass part in Pink Flyod's "Hey You" Was not played by Roger Waters. He could not stand the idea of playing a Fretless. It was played by David Gilmore

the famous bass solo/break in the Paul Simon tune "You Can Call Me Al" (played by Bakithi Kumalo) is a recording trick. The second half is actually the first half played backwards. ...this confounded me for months trying to learn it, until I read it somewhere.

I believe that while Ray Manzarek always played the bass lines on keyboard live, they had quite a few session musicians playing a real electric bass on many of the studio tracks on their albums.
